Writing Tip — 2

Writing Tip — 2

Back up your work! There’s nothing more horrible than writing a novel and have the computer crash in the middle of it. Whatever program you use for writing, if it has Autosave, use it. Set it for one-minute intervals. At the end of your writing day, back up all the files you worked on and store them on a flash drive or a cloud drive. I use two flash drives and Google Drive for my work. Better to be safe than sorry. Once a month I do a full back up of my work folder and store that on the flash drives, and upload to Google Drive.

  1. Reblogged this on Chris The Story Reading Ape's Blog and commented:
Great advice – I back up my blog daily 😀

Thanks. I had a bad experience when I used to make maps fro rpgs on the computer. I was almost finished with a job that was due that day, my computer crashed and I had three hours to begint he work again and get it finished on time. Since then I back up everything twice a day to two flash drives and to google drive. 😀

  2. Yes! My main computer just exhibited signs of sure death – the blue screen. I am afraid to turn it on after doing a restore, in case it didn’t work. One of my books that I was hoping to re-release is on there. My working computer has a flash drive, but now I am thinking Google Drive also. Thanks 🙂

  3. Last time my computer shut down because of some error while I was typing my work. I had started a new story and had finished twenty pages, the file in the computer was the only record of my work. I reopened my computer to find that my work had been autosaved. I thanked god and from then on always kept my work on both my pen drive and computer. 😉

  4. Oh yes! Three back ups minimum.
